Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global semiconductor solution provider, announced on July 20 that its Automotive Network Security Management System (CSMS) for microcontrollers (MCUs) and system-on-chips (SoCs) development has been defined and implemented according to the international standard ISO/SAE 21434:2021. The CSMS framework is applicable to Renesas Electronics' design center located in Musashi, Japan, and has been certified by TüV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH.

The certification reaffirms Renesas Electronics' commitment to first-tier suppliers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that the company will continue to fulfill its CSMS responsibilities and help automakers obtain vehicle type certification according to the recent United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) UNR155 regulation. As previously announced in a press release, all Renesas Electronics automotive-grade MCUs and SoCs developed after January 1, 2022 will follow the certified ISO/SAE 21434:2021 network security management system (CSMS) development process, including the 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs and the popular R-Car SoC product family.

Vice President of the HPC Core Technology Division at Renesas, said, "Through independent third-party certification, customers can be confident that Renesas Electronics' management of the CSMS process meets the requirements defined by ISO/SAE 21434:2021. OEMs and first-tier suppliers can use such independent third-party certification to simplify their vehicle type approval process without having to conduct their own audits of our process."

Renesas Electronics has made significant contributions to the development of the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard worldwide, and its commitment and dedication to network security go beyond the automotive industry. In 2019, Renesas Electronics received TüV Rheinland certification for compliance with the IEC 62443-4-1 standard, which specifies the process requirements for secure product development in industrial products.

Renesas Electronics continues to develop secure and reliable products for its customers. The ISO/SAE 21434:2021 certification is the latest achievement for Renesas Electronics in the automotive-grade MCU and SoC field after the ISO 26262 certification. Customers can be assured that the use of Renesas Electronics MCUs and SoCs in the next generation of vehicle systems will comply with international standards for product network security and functional safety.
